The youth of Ternopil prayed at the locations struck by enemy missiles

On November 19, Ternopil suffered an enemy attack: the residents of the city awoke to explosions. Russian missiles struck two residential buildings and other civilian structures, taking the lives of many peaceful residents. As a result of the attack, thirty-three people were killed, including six children. Ninety-four were injured, among them eighteen children. Six individuals, among them a child, are still unaccounted for.

Youth communities of the Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy and the Taizé Choir “Obnova-Ternopil” in addition to volunteering at humanitarian centres, assembled at the impact locations to pay tribute to the victims through prayer and to express their support for the families.

The brothers of the Taizé Community, especially Brother Matthew, expressed words of support and solidarity with the residents of the city, particularly with the young people. Upon the request of the Taizé Community, the Taizé Choir “Obnova –Ternopil” will lead prayer vigils at the 48th European Taizé Youth Meeting in Paris from December 28 to January 1.

This service will be an opportunity to pray for peace together with young people from across Europe, and to bear witness to the will and resilience of the Ukrainian people before the global community. This is an opportunity to say once again to the whole world: “Ukraine stands! Ukraine prays! Ukraine fights!“
