“Za_Posty Vocation” — an online retreat for youth from around the world
The Patriarchal Commission for Youth of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church invites you to the Lenten online retreat “Za_Posty Vocation” — a spiritual space of prayer, unity, and honest dialogue for the global youth of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.
The meetings will take place every Wednesday and Friday throughout Great Lent at 9:00 PM Kyiv time in Ukrainian, English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
“The novelty of these gatherings is that we want not only to speak or communicate something, but to truly engage in dialogue. The Zoom platform makes it possible not only to listen, but also to ask questions, share personal experiences, and seek answers together. A second important element is encounter — bringing together people from all over the world. We want to offer at least an online experience of unity, so that we do not lose the sense that we are one Church and one youth,” emphasized Father Roman Demush, Deputy Head of the Patriarchal Commission for Youth of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.
It is important to note that the online retreat “Za_Posty Vocation” is a global project. Today, UGCC youth are scattered throughout the world — both due to waves of emigration in past decades and because of the current challenges of war.
“Our invitation is addressed to all the youth of our Church — to those who, because of the war, have found themselves in different parts of the world, and to those in Ukraine who face difficulties gathering in person due to distance, danger, or constant air-raid alerts. Another distinctive feature of the retreat will be its multilingual format. The Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church is a global community, and not all young people of Ukrainian descent abroad speak Ukrainian fluently. Many belong to the third or fourth generation and may not fully understand the language. We want to speak to our youth in a language they understand,” Father Roman noted.
The theme of this year’s retreat will be vocation — one of the deepest and most important questions in a young person’s life.
“For young people, it is extremely important to understand: Who am I? What is my place in life? What does the Lord want from me, and how do I respond to that call? Through reflections on biblical stories, testimonies, and examples of different life paths, the organizers seek to help young people discern their vocation — whether to marriage, consecrated life, priesthood, monasticism, or responsible lay mission. Youth ministry is a ministry of vocations. We strive to help young people recognize their calling and have the courage to say ‘yes’ to God. As a special spiritual guide, we recall the words of Lubomyr Husar, which remind us of the essence of vocation — ‘To be a human being,’” Father Roman added.
The retreat will be led by Bishop Bryan Bayda, Head of the Patriarchal Commission for Youth of the UGCC, together with youth ministers: Father Roman Demush, Father Taras Brovdi, Father Serhiy Honcharov (Padre Serzh), and Father Andriy Maksymovych.
